What Does the "K" Actually Mean?

The "K" in carbon fiber stands for thousands. It refers to the number of individual carbon filaments (threads) bundled together into a single strip of yarn used to weave the face of the racquet.

  • 3K Carbon = 3,000 threads per strip.

  • 12K Carbon = 12,000 threads per strip.

  • 18K / 24K Carbon = 18,000 or 24,000 threads per strip.

There is a massive misconception in the padel world that "a higher K number automatically means a stiffer racquet." This is a myth.

Because a 3K weave uses thinner strips, the weave is incredibly tight.
